Academic Background
Stanley Krippner is an internationally renowned psychologist recognized for his work on altered states of consciousness, dream research, and shamanism. He holds a Ph.D. in psychology and has taught and conducted research across the globe. He studied Portuguese in college, which he later used when delivering lectures in Brazil.
Research Focus
Stanley Krippner has studied shamanism as a community practice where shamans access unique knowledge to heal and guide others. He focuses on how they achieve altered states of consciousness through the "seven Ds": Dance, Deprivation, Dialogue, Diet, Dreaming, Substances, and Drumming. His work includes collaboration with Indigenous healers from diverse cultures around the world.
Current Institutional Role
Professor of Psychology at Saybrook University (formerly Saybrook Graduate School) in California for nearly 50 years (from 1972 to 2019). He held the title of Alan Watts Professor of Psychology there.
